There’s a reason why Grindr servers overload when there’s a Republican convention in town.

And see…here’s the thing. If they were just gay? That’d be fine. What I take offense to is the fact that they condemn anyone not within their inner circle for being gay.

It’s like they want to paint this picture of what they want america to be. And in this picture it’s essentially the town from the andy griffith show. Except they also want a little secret gay sex. But anyone ELSE that has gay sex is to be punished! WHILE THEY DO THE EXACT SAME SHIT THEY PUNISH OTHERS FOR!!!

Like the secret is some shamable offense. It’s not though. So you took it in the ass last night from a dude. So what? As long as you’re both ok with it, then I see no issue. Yet they want to act like nobody else is allowed to do that.

Homophobia is, in about 90% of the cases, caused by projection of self-hatred, or resentment of the fact that others are allowed to be openly gay without repercussions, while the person in question is stuck having to pretend they’re straight.

in about 90% of the cases

And other complete bullshit statistics I ripped out of thin air.

If you think even close to 90% of homophobes – or fuck it, 90% of cases if you think the countable closet gay instances are vastly unevenly distributed among a tiny 1% – are doing it because they’re secretly aching for gay sex/romance, you’re out of your fucking mind and need to take that shit back to high school psychology.

Just like 90% of racists don’t secretly wish they were another race or 90% of transphobes aren’t closet trans, this is egregiously wrong and nonsensical.

Making homophobia a “problem of the gays themselves” has been a common trope for decades. It’s very comforting because it kind of absolves heteropatriarchal society.

Of course don’t you dare to delve into WHY do some gay people have internalised homophobia.
